Yet again I'm flabbergasted as I continue to read about courageous women who were so far ahead of the curve and so courageously said hell no to the patriarchy of their day who wanted them to shut up and be invisible. Goddess only knows how far back in the Dark Ages we'd be if they had conformed to the hideously repressive status quo. I'm writing this in late August 2013. I just learned of the death of a brave and brilliant and energetic woman: Another one of my new heretic heroes, Muriel Siebert, first lady of Wall Street, a trailblazing woman in a field dominated by men, died in August 2013 at the age of 80. Her trailblazing success of founding her own brokerage company turned Wall Street upside down. She was the first woman to buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and her firm Siebert & CO is still the only nationally known brokerage headed by a woman. In 1977 she became the highest ranking female regulator in history. She also headed many philanthropies. Her full story is posted on Makers and it's absolutely thrilling and amazing to witness her steadfastness and courage as Wall Street men secretly asked her not to apply for a seat on Wall Street simply based on her gender. Her company was continuously successful and in 1975 her company was one of the first to offer rates at a discount when the SEC allowed broker commissions to be negotiable.
August is also the month I celebrate Lammas, the high holy day in the Goddess tradition celebrating the first harvest festival of the agricultural growing season. I am so very grateful for all the blessings I am currently receiving and I know my Thankfulness and Gratitude bring so many more blessings. It is becoming so well known how vitally important it is to know that we live and move and have our very being in an infinite flow of Energy. We are the Life Force in Expression. Today I received so many blessings and I kept them going by sharing the blessings with others. I gave a friend a free coupon and I gave another friend four times the money she asked for and told her to pay it forward and not to worry about paying me back. They were small playful blessings and yet they brought us all such Joy I could feel the Power in them and in giving them.
In a spirit of celebration I also want to honor several other people who are such great models for our humanity. Margaret Mead said it never occurred to her to be anything other than a success. How brilliant she was in yet another field so dominated by men, especially in her era. Another favorite of mine is Albert Einstein who said, "If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough." What a great and true statement from one of the most brilliant people ever to live.
In a spirit of sorrow and utter shock I also want to comment on the brutal murder of Christopher Lane in August 2013, the young Australian ballplayer killed by three teens in Oklahoma where hate crimes are a misdemeanor. First of all, I can't imagine that hate crimes are a misdemeanor. The teens killed this young man because they were bored. I can't help but say you certainly won't be bored in a maximum security prison. They're being charged with capital murder. More likely you'll be scared out of your wits. Yet again I'm holding the paradoxes of our humanity!!! WOW!!!!
I also want to celebrate another brilliant, energetic woman: Frances Perkins, the first female to serve as Labor Secretary. She also served as chairwoman of Roosevelt's Committee on Economic Security where she was highly influential in passing the Social Security Act of 1935. As chief labor officer she was highly influential in passing regulations for worker safety after witnessing the fire in New York, the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in which 146 employees died. She also served on the U.S. Civil Service Commission under Truman where she stayed active in international labor relations advocating for worldwide labor safety regulations that made it easier to implement the Marshall Plan. Perkins was also instrumental in getting Truman re-elected after Perkins comforted Eleanor Roosevelt and got her on board with the re-election effort. Kirstin Downey's book titled, "The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins—Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, and the Minimum Wage", highlights the many contributions of Frances Perkins.
No matter what edge we may be standing on I want to share this reminder from Owen K. Waters from his work in Spiritual Dynamics: the metaphysical principle that our thoughts travel faster than the speed of light. That is why our thoughts are so very powerful. They instantaneously travel around the world!!! We are sending those thoughts. That is why we are so powerful!!! Another reminder I saw is that our positive thoughts are 10,000 times more powerful than our negative thoughts. These Truths tell me yet again that no matter how many sorrows and atrocities are still happening the healing and uplifting is happening faster than the speed of light if we will just stay focused on the ever upward transformation of our holy precious lives!!!!!!
On a sweet celebratory note it's very likely I will eclipse 5,000 hits on my website, www.cathycombs.com, for the second consecutive month this August 2013. I can't wait to see how many I will be getting when I actually get to August 2014. It's so very special to be sharing what I know with you and that what I'm saying is so uplifting that people are blessed by it and looking forward to it. I know this is the Principle in action that when you do what you love to do it expands. It works for me. It works for you! I'm so glad!!!!!
On another sweet celebratory note in a class I was taking tonight I realized like never before that everything hinges on Self-Acceptance. Every kind of Success is simply Self-Acceptance. When we allow Self-Acceptance there is nothing but Good in store. It seems so bizarre to be saying this since I've known it and felt it for a zillion eons but today is different. I know I moved up to a radically different level with the feeling I have about this Self-Awareness. Every fear is simply a lack of Self-Acceptance, a lack of feeling our inherent Worthiness, a negative Self-Judgment and a separation from our true Nature. On a playfully blistering hot August night in 2013 this is such a sweet Awareness. I can't wait to see all the Good yet to unfold. I am so very, very blessed and grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you are too as you allow room for this experience. As I've said so many times it is our very Purpose for being on this Earth!!!!! On that note I'm sending vibrant wishes into the future for a bright, uplifting Joy-filled Life for all!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see what blessings and changes are unfolding in this next year.
